It's been exactly one year since Samsung unveiled a new pair of wireless earbuds, and the company broke the silence today with the announcement of the Galaxy Buds 2 Pro. As the name implies, the new generation combines elements from two previous Samsung earbuds, namely the Galaxy Buds 2 and Buds Pro, and boasts an upgraded “Advanced Intelligent Active Noise Cancellation” technology along with 24bit Hi-Fi processing.
Thanks to new advancements in Samsung's earbud designs and ANC technology, the Galaxy Buds 2 Pro promise to hide even the loudest ambient noise. Furthermore, the earbuds claim to deliver studio-quality sound and other technologies like HD Voice and 360 Audio with Direct Multi-Channel, the latter of which requires One UI 4.1.1 or newer.
We'll put these sound quality claims to the test in our upcoming review, but on paper, it looks like the Galaxy Buds 2 Pro are the most advanced Samsung wireless earbuds to date. Other specs include 10mm drivers, Bluetooth 5.3 connectivity, an IPX7 water-resistance rating, and enough battery life to last for 8 hours on a single charge or up to 29 hours with the charging case included, with ANC disabled. When ANC is enabled, battery life drops to around 5 / 18 hours.
When will the Galaxy Buds 2 Pro be available?
Samsung customers can now pre-order the Galaxy Buds 2 Pro in most markets in anticipation of the August 26 release date. The new earbuds are available in three color options: Zenith Gry, Zenith White, and Bora Purple. Design-wise, the earbuds have a matte finish and resemble the Galaxy Buds 2 with a bigger opening. Samsung claims that they're 15% smaller than the Buds Pro thanks to a new “Aerodynamic Design.”
The new earbuds offer 24bit Hi-Fi sound on Samsung Galaxy devices running One UI 4.0 or higher and support complete surround sound with 360 Audio (5.1 or 7.1 channels).
Samsung offers the new TWS for €229 / $229. This price tag puts the new model in the same category as the original Galaxy Buds Pro rather than the Buds 2 (2021). In essence, the Galaxy Buds 2 Pro should be Samsung's most advanced wireless earbuds to date, but we'll see if they live up to expectations in our upcoming review.
