It has been a few months since the new wireless charging standard—Qi2—was announced. It has been built with the help of Apple and uses magnets for secure attachment with accessories. While newer iPhones support Qi2, none of the recently announced Android smartphones support the new standard. Will the Galaxy S24 become the first Android phone to support Qi2? A new video may have revealed it, according to some.
Samsung released a new video to highlight the features of the Galaxy Book 4 series. It displays (via 9To5Google) tighter integration with Samsung's phones, including a feature that lets you use a Galaxy smartphone's camera as the webcam on the Galaxy Book 4 Ultra. While showcasing that feature, Samsung has used a device that looks like the Galaxy S24 Ultra, and it is placed on a stand that appears to feature magnetic suction to hold the phone upright. Some people started speculating that it reveals the Qi2 wireless charging capability of the Galaxy S24 Ultra. However, it doesn't. Look at the video in question below.
If you look at the video closely, the device appears to be a Galaxy S23 Ultra, not the Galaxy S24 Ultra. The curvature of the phone's sides looks more pronounced than what we've seen from leaked Galaxy S24 Ultra photos and videos. Moreover, the phone's battery isn't getting charged in the video, so it is likely that the stand isn't a Qi2 charger. Moreover, a disclaimer in the video says the phone used in the video is the Galaxy S23 Ultra. It reads, “Galaxy S23 Ultra and Galaxy Book 4 Ultra sold separately. Sequence shortened. Screen image simulated for illustrative purposes. Actual UI may differ. Tripod sold separately. Windows feature availability and rollout timing varies by country and device. Requires Microsoft account to log in.”
Leaked specifications of the Galaxy S24 Ultra reveal that the phone has 15W wireless charging. However, there is no mention of Qi2 in the specifications list. Moreover, as we showcased in an article yesterday, using magnetic chargers like MagSafe renders the S Pen useless. So, it is likely that Samsung hasn't implemented Qi2 in the Galaxy S24 Ultra. Still, we need to wait a few more days to see if Qi2 is present on the Galaxy S24 series.
