After the popular Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S10, Samsung didn't have smash hits for a few years. However, it picked up pace with the Galaxy S23 series, thanks to their balanced performance. Now, the South Korean firm is expecting its next-generation flagship phone, the Galaxy S24, to sell even better than the Galaxy S23.

Galaxy S24 is expected to sell 35 million units

According to a report from The Korea Daily, Samsung has set shipment targets of 35 million units for the Galaxy S24 series. That's 10% higher than the Galaxy S23 series. The South Korean firm is expected to announce the Galaxy S24 series in January 2024, and it will be the company's first ‘AI Galaxy Phone.' In comparison, the Galaxy S21 and the Galaxy S22 sold less than 30 million units, while the Galaxy S23 series sold 31 million units. Apparently, earlier today, Samsung revealed that it expects to ship 253 million smartphones, including the Galaxy S24, in 2024.

An industry insider claimed that Samsung's shipment numbers may go up or down slightly, depending on the market situation, but the company's larger shipment target has been set. Analysts expect Apple's and Samsung's yearly shipments next year to be at similar levels of around 250 million. Some even expect Apple to surpass Samsung's shipment figures in 2024, which should be a sign of worry for the South Korean firm, which has been the world's biggest smartphone brand for several years.

Samsung wants to sell more high-end Galaxy phones to compete with Apple

The report claims that over 75% of Samsung phones sold worldwide are lower-priced models. According to some analyst reports, Samsung's smartphone ASP (Average Selling Price) is $295, while that of Apple is $988. To counter this, Samsung has reportedly set 2024 to be the first year of its flagship smartphone counterattack, and it is planning to sell more high-end phones and wants to see more high-end Galaxy phones in the top 10 best-selling smartphones list.

Daniel Araujo, Corporate VP at Samsung MX, said, “We expect premium-centered demand to increase in the smartphone replacement cycle next year. We achieved double-digit growth in annual flagship shipments and sales growth exceeding the market growth rate.” Moreover, Samsung expects to sell more than 10 million Galaxy Z series smartphones.

It is reported that Samsung internally believes if it brings on-device AI to its smartphones, and if it can improve the operating system, it can close the gap with Apple. To that end, the South Korean firm will reportedly collaborate with Google and Microsoft to bring Google Bard or ChatGPT to its smartphones, starting with the Galaxy S24 series. Apple, on the other hand, wants to increase shipment volumes to increase the revenue from its services, such as Apple Music, Apple TV+, and iCloud Drive.
