India is a price sensitive market, and while the budget segment is where things have gone south for the Korean giant's presence in the country, Samsung has been offering excellent value with its flagship offerings in recent years, pricing them very competitively against other Android phone makers. The Galaxy S9 and S9+, for example, were launched with the same price tags in India as the Galaxy S8 and S8+ had been a year prior, despite the lineup seeing at least a $50 price hike in other markets. Last year, Samsung had reduced the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ prices in India by a sizable amount, and with the Galaxy S9 and S9+ now on sale in the country, the Galaxy S8 and S8+ have received yet another price cut.
Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ get price cuts in India
The Galaxy S8 and S8+ are now available in India for Rs. 49,990 and Rs. 53,900, which is around Rs. 10,000 less than what the Galaxy S9 and S9+ cost. The new prices have gone into effect on both Samsung's official website and at offline retailers, with the latter also offering a Rs. 10,000 cashback for those who pay via the Paytm wallet. The 128GB version (with 6GB of RAM) of the Galaxy S8+, meanwhile, is available for Rs. 64,900. That's the same as the 64GB Galaxy S9+, and considering the S9+ gets 6GB of RAM and the microSD slot allows for further storage expansion, Samsung's latest flagship makes a tad more sense thanks to all the extra features on-board.
That's not to say the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ aren't excellent smartphones even a year later, and with the new price tags, they now offer even better value for consumers in India who might be shopping for a top-end phone.
