Samsung took a shot at the location tracker market in 2021 with the release of the Galaxy SmartTag and SmartTag+. The company has now announced a sequel, which Samsung appears to have improved in many areas over the original models.
The Galaxy SmartTag 2 has an all-new design and doesn't look as toy-like as the 2021 models did. But these design improvements extend beyond mere looks. Samsung says the Galaxy SmartTag 2 can withstand the elements better than the original models, thanks to an improved IP rating.

The new Galaxy SmartTag 2 has an IP67 rating
The 2021 SmartTag had an IP53 dust and water resistance rating. Technically speaking, an IP53 rating provides limited protection for dust ingress, in addition to protection against water sprays less than 60 degrees from vertical, and limited ingress protection for three minutes.
Samsung's new Galaxy SmartTag 2 has an IP67 rating, which means it's dust-tight and should survive even if submerged in up to 1 meter of freshwater for up to 30 minutes. Of course, Samsung advises against exposing the SmartTag 2 to soapy water and pool water with chlorine content.
The company has built the SmartTag 2 with an improved build quality to offer more peace of mind for users who know their tracked belongings may be exposed to the elements and pet owners who want to attach the Galaxy SmartTag 2 to a collar.
