Samsung's Galaxy Watch Active 2 and newer smartwatches have ECG built-in, but the company doesn't activate the feature in most markets worldwide. Similar is the case with its latest smartwatches, the Galaxy Watch 5 and the Galaxy Watch 5 Pro. The company has now announced that it has activated ECG and blood pressure monitoring on Galaxy Watch 5 series in Malaysia.
Galaxy Watch 5 and Galaxy Watch 5 Pro owners in Malaysia can now use the Samsung Health Monitor app on their smartphones to check their ECG and blood pressure. It can help them in diagnosing heart-related problems earlier and then they can consult a doctor for possible remedies. This feature is only available on the Galaxy Watch 5 series when the smartwatch is paired with a Samsung Galaxy smartphone.
To measure blood pressure, a Galaxy Watch 5 series user must set up the Samsung Health Monitor app on the Galaxy smartphone, make sure that the watch is fit snugly to the wrist, calibrate the watch with a dedicated blood pressure measurement device, and then use the feature.
Measuring ECG is a little more straightforward. Just pair the Galaxy Watch 5 series smartwatch with a Galaxy smartphone, open the Samsung Health Monitor app on the smartwatch, and start measuring ECG by resting the opposite hand's finger on the smartwatch's top button for 30 seconds.
