Introduction

The Galaxy Watch 9 will be Samsung’s ninth-generation Galaxy smartwatch and is expected to launch in July 2026 alongside the Galaxy Watch Ultra 2. It could bring a refined design, improved health and fitness tracking, additional wellness features, and slightly longer battery life compared to the Galaxy Watch 8.

Let’s take a look at everything we know so far about the upcoming smartwatch.

Design and display

The Galaxy Watch 9 is expected to feature a design similar to its predecessor, the Galaxy Watch 8, with a circular display housed in a squircle-shaped Armor Aluminum 2 case. It could offer an IP68 rating for dust and water resistance, water resistance up to 50 meters, and MIL-STD-810H durability.

It is expected to be available in two display sizes: 1.34 inches (438 × 438 pixels) and 1.47 inches (480 × 480 pixels). The smartwatch will likely use a Super AMOLED display with up to 3,000 nits of peak brightness and a 60Hz refresh rate. The display could be protected by Sapphire Crystal glass.

The smartwatch is also expected to feature a 20mm silicone strap with a redesigned quick-release mechanism similar to the one used on the Galaxy Watch 8. Samsung could offer several watch strap options as official accessories.

The 40mm model could be available in Cream and Graphite, while the 44mm version may come in Graphite and Silver.

Health and fitness tracking

The Galaxy Watch 9 is expected to feature an accelerometer, altimeter, barometer, bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA) sensor, compass, dual-band GPS, gyroscope, and optical heart rate sensor. Combined with hardware and software improvements, these sensors could deliver more accurate health and fitness tracking than the Galaxy Watch 8.

It could also become the first Galaxy Watch to offer the Hearing Health feature, which monitors ambient noise levels and earbud volume exposure. The feature can notify users when they are exposed to potentially harmful sound levels, helping reduce the risk of long-term hearing damage.

Software

Samsung is expected to launch the Galaxy Watch 9 with Wear OS 7-based One UI 9 Watch out of the box. The software could introduce new watch faces, improved stock apps, and enhancements to the Now Bar.

Based on Samsung’s software update policy for recent Galaxy Watches, the Galaxy Watch 9 could receive four major Wear OS updates and security updates for up to five years.

Specifications

The Galaxy Watch 9 is expected to be powered by the Exynos W1000 processor. Built on Samsung’s 3nm process, the chip debuted in 2024 with the Galaxy Watch 7 and the Galaxy Watch Ultra. It features a five-core CPU and a Mali-G68 GPU. The smartwatch could pair the Exynos W1000 with 2GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage.

Other expected specifications include dual-band GNSS (BeiDou, Galileo, GLONASS, and GPS), LTE on supported models, Wi-Fi 5, and Bluetooth 6.0.

The 40mm model is expected to feature a 382mAh battery, while the 44mm version could use a 435mAh battery. Both models are expected to support up to 10W wireless charging.

Pricing and release date

Samsung is expected to unveil the Galaxy Watch 9 on July 22, 2026, with preorders opening the same day in select markets.

The smartwatch could go on sale in August. Pricing is expected to start at around $350 in the US for the 40mm Wi-Fi model and around $380 for the 40mm LTE model.
