Samsung launched the Galaxy Z Flip 5 today during the Galaxy Unpacked event in South Korea. The phone debuted alongside many other devices and is available for pre-order already. The company's new phones and tablets come pre-installed with Android 13 and One UI 5.1.1, and you may be wondering how many updates it will get.
Galaxy Z Flip 5 will get four major Android OS updates
Samsung upgraded its software update policy last year with the launch of the Galaxy S22 series. All its high-end phones and tablets get four years of Android OS updates and five years of security updates, and the Galaxy Z Flip 5 will get the same treatment.
Since the phone debuted with Android 13, it will get Android 14, Android 15, Android 16, and Android 17, along with the One UI update and features that accompany them. Its first significant software update, Android 14 and One UI 6.0, is expected to arrive before the end of this year. It may even get the Android 14 Beta update before the release of the stable update.
We expect the Galaxy Z Flip 5 to get the Android 15 update toward the end of 2024, the Android 16 update in late 2025, and the Android 17 update sometime before the end of 2026. The new foldable phone will get monthly security updates for three years from now, and then the security updates will arrive once every three months for a year. The Galaxy Z Flip 5 will get two security updates in the last year of support.
