The Galaxy Z Flip 6 is bringing some major leaps in performance and thermal management over previous models. On the performance side of things, it’s the first model to come with 12GB of RAM, which accompanies the fantastic Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset.
And to keep things running cool when it’s being pushed to its limits, the Galaxy Z Flip 6 is the first Galaxy Z Flip that has a vapor chamber cooling system.
Galaxy Z Flip 6 is the coolest—literally and figuratively—phone in the lineup
The compact and slim design of Galaxy Z Flip smartphones has forced Samsung to make many sacrifices over the years, such as battery capacity and total number of cameras. It also had to sacrifice cooling potential, but that's changing this year.
The Galaxy Z Flip 6 has a massive vapor chamber: Samsung says it’s 150% bigger than the one on the Galaxy S23 Ultra. That means it's even bigger than the S24 Ultra's vapor chamber, which is twice the size of the S23 Ultra vapor chamber. That is impressive no matter how you cut it.
It’s necessary, too. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 has boasts superb CPU and GPU performance. But it also generates a lot of heat that forces the chip to throttle quickly when handling sustained high-intensity workloads.
It’s why Samsung upgraded the size of the vapor cooling system on the Galaxy S24 series compared to the Galaxy S23 series, and it’s likely why it took the pains to implement one in the Galaxy Z Flip 6 as well.
The vapor chamber cooling system and increased RAM will benefit everything from multitasking to long gaming sessions and help prevent the Galaxy Z Flip 6 from slowing down. Better thermal management should also help keep battery temperatures in check, which may also result in longer battery life.
