Samsung has consistently shown over the past few years that it is the best in the Android business when it comes to software support. For a long time, almost all of its phones received two major OS upgrades, until Samsung finally switched to providing three big updates to all of its flagships and some of its mid-range phones.
If that wasn't good enough, Samsung later announced that some of its devices would be getting four years of Android upgrades, leaving even Google, maker of the Android operating system itself, in the dust. The list of Galaxy devices that are eligible for four major Android (and One UI) upgrades is already fairly big, and Samsung is now adding its new foldables to that list.
Four Android OS updates, five years of security updates
That's right: The Galaxy Z Fold 4 and the Galaxy Z Flip 4 will both get four years of Android OS upgrades. Both run Android 12 (or rather, Android 12L in the case of the Z Fold 4) out of the box, which means they will be supported all the way up to Android 16, which is likely to release in 2026 barring any changes to how Google approaches Android updates.
When it comes to security updates, both the Galaxy Z Fold 4 and the Galaxy Z Flip 4 will get them till 2027, and at least for the first three years, we should see those security updates coming out monthly. Essentially, if you decide to buy either of these new foldables Samsung will release updates for a long, long time.
