IFA 2024 kicked off today, September 6, in Berlin. This year's tech event feels more significant than usual because IFA celebrates 100 years, but also because Samsung is developing new and exciting technologies.

Samsung took the stage at IFA as it does every year, but as you may have guessed, assuming you followed the company's trends throughout 2024, Samsung's IFA presentation revolves heavily around SmartThings and particularly AI.

Samsung named its presentation “AI For All,” so the theme didn't take anyone by surprise. The conference included chapters such as “AI Meets the World” and “AI Meets You.”

As it took the stage, Samsung explained how SmartThings and the emerging era of AI can enrich the lives of users and create seamless experiences across a growing device ecosystem. This era of technology is all about using AI to make things easier for the user rather than complicating them.

AI technologies are now clever enough to improve and even take control of certain functions, thus saving users time and effort. And these improvements are happening as we speak across countless product types — not just Galaxy smartphones and tablets.

SmartThings connects over 500 million devices

Samsung revealed that the SmartThings platform connects more than half a billion devices, which is quite staggering if you think about it.

SmartThings provides remote access and IoT features to countless products, ranging from Bespoke home appliances and vacuum cleaners to consumer electronics, with and without AI.

But even if not every Samsung device has AI, this is the era of AI systems, as far as the company is concerned. AI systems are slowly but surely making their way onto more devices throughout the year, and this trend won't stop anytime soon.

Samsung now offers TVs with better AI upscaling, laptops, phones, and tablets with AI capabilities, as well as vacuum cleaners, washers, and even refrigerators that improve the user experience through at least one AI component.

The story continues after the video

Samsung celebrated IFA 2024 by releasing the One UI 6.1.1 update for select Galaxy mobile devices. The update enables even more advanced AI capabilities and brings Sketch to Image to all compatible phones and tablets.

Other products Samsung showcased at IFA 2024 include the new Galaxy Book 5 Pro 360, which is Samsung's first laptop with an Intel Lunar Lake CPU, alongside its first ARM laptop, the Galaxy Book 4 Edge, the Premiere 7 and 9 projectors, 2024 Neo QLED TVs, the Music Frame Wicked Edition, Bespoke appliances, and more.

Samsung's exhibition, with a heavy focus on AI, will keep rolling at IFA until September 10. CMO of Samsung Europe, Benjamin Braun, said, “Since our presentation at IFA last year, discussions around AI and its role in our lives have grown significantly. At Samsung, we are proud to make AI more accessible and understandable, showing how it can simplify life rather than complicate it. […]”
