During the official launch of One UI 5.0 at the SDC 2022 event, Samsung discussed all the new and improved features that Samsung users can experience once the One UI 5.0 update, based on Android 13, reaches their devices. One of the most exciting and talked-about features was the Bixby Text Call feature.
Google is known for using AI (Artificial Intelligence) to create new experiences, especially around calling. It already has Direct My Call and Call Screening features for Pixel smartphones. Now, Samsung is also joining the bandwagon with its intelligent Bixby Text Call feature. Samsung considers One UI 5.0 to be an update that would provide the most personalized mobile experience.
To further enhance and personalize the calling experience, with Bixby Text Call, you will be able to answer text calls by simply typing a message. Samsung's intelligent assistant, Bixby, will then convert the text to audio and share it directly with the caller on the line on your behalf. Furthermore, it will also show you what the caller is saying by converting their audio to text.
Bixby Text Call's English version is set to arrive in early 2023
This would help you continue your conversation even without talking on the phone or by simply writing texts. Do note that you would be able to see the converted text in the conversation but not hear it. So, there won't be any read-aloud features involved. Only the caller will hear the automated voice created by Bixby.
You can enable this feature by opening the Samsung Phone app, then tapping the three menu icon. Select Settings and now press the Bixby Text Call feature to enable it by turning on the toggle.
Samsung says that this feature would come in handy in scenarios when you are traveling on public transport or at a concert. Notably, this Bixby Text Call feature is available in South Korea as a part of the earlier One UI 5.0 update, and support for English will arrive by early 2023.
