In August 2022, Samsung launched the 990 Pro SSD, and early this year, it launched an affordable version of that model, the 990 Evo. Now, almost eight months later, the South Korean tech giant has launched the 990 Evo Plus SSD. It sits between the other two drives in terms of performance and price.
Samsung has launched the 990 Evo Plus SSD. It is an M.2 NVMe storage drive that supports up to PCIe 4.0. The company has made the SSD on its 8th generation V-NAND 3-bit TLC technology and its in-house developed controller on a 5nm fabrication process. It has a nickle-coated heat shield that minimizes overheating, resulting in 73% higher power efficiency than its predecessor.

It is worth mentioning that this drive does not have a DRAM cache. Despite that, its read and write speeds are on par with ones using a DRAM cache in the same price category. The Samsung 990 Evo Plus SSD is available in three storage sizes: 1TB, 2TB, and 4TB. Below are the sequential and random read/write speeds as well as Total Bytes Written (TBW) figures of each model.
Samsung 990 Evo Plus SSD specifications
1TB
- Sequential – Read: Up to 7,150MB/s; Write: Up to 6,300MB/s
- Random – Read: Up to 850K IOPS; Write: Up to 1,350K IOPS
- TBW – 600TB
2TB
- Sequential – Read: Up to 7,250MB/s; Write: Up to 6,300MB/s
- Random – Read: Up to 1,000K IOPS; Write: Up to 1,350K IOPS

These figures are much higher than that of the 990 Evo but slightly lower than those of the 990 Pro. You can check out their specifications in the images below.
