We first reported about six months ago that Samsung had the successor to the Galaxy A32 in the pipeline. Since then, information about the new handset has trickled in gradually. The device is no longer a mystery, though, as Samsung has officially unveiled it today.

The Galaxy A33 5G's sole purpose is to elevate Samsung's mid-range lineup. It brings some meaningful improvements in specs compared to its predecessor. There's also the promise of enhanced software update support.

Samsung brings IP67 resistance to the Galaxy A33 5G

The Galaxy A33 5G comes with a 6.4-inch FHD+ Super AMOLED Infinity-U display with a 90Hz refresh rate. There's an in-display optical fingerprint sensor. The device measures 74.0 x 159.7 x 8.1mm and weighs 186g. The only major design change is at the back as the cutouts for the cameras are slightly raised from the back panel.

Samsung has gone with its 2.4GHz Exynos 1280 chipset for the Galaxy A33 5G. It's paired with 6/8GB RAM and 128/256GB of storage. The device does support microSD storage expansion up to 1TB. The camera setup consists of an 8-megapixel ultrawide sensor paired with a 48-megapixel main, 2-megapixel depth and 5-megapixel macro sensors. There's also a 13-megapixel camera at the front.

The device is equipped with a chunky 5,000mAh battery that now supports 25W fast charging. That's a decent improvement over its predecessor's support for 15W charging. Don't look for that charger in the box, though, as the device doesn't ship with one. You need to buy one separately.

Gorilla Glass 5 provides enhanced protection for the display. The Galaxy A33 5G also gets an IP67 rating for water and dust resistance, thereby lowering the price point of Samsung phones that offer this level of protection.

The Galaxy A33 5G runs Android 12 out of the box with One UI 4.1. Samsung has confirmed that it's on the list of devices that will receive four OS upgrades. This ensures that the Galaxy A33 5G will remain supported until Android 16. It will also gt five years of security updates.

Samsung has confirmed that the Galaxy A33 5G will be available for purchase in select markets starting April 22.
