Samsung has announced that all of its Lifestyle TV lineup models now come with eco-friendly packaging in efforts to reduce the environmental footprint. The Frame, The Serif, and The Sero TVs come with eco-friendly packaging that's made from corrugated cardboard.
The eco-friendly packaging allows easier recycling and upcycling of the cardboard boxes for creative reuse. Samsung has used dot matrix design on each side of the cardboard boxes, which makes it easier for customers to cut boxes more efficiently and turn them into cat houses, magazine racks, remote control stands, and set-top box shelves.
Samsung includes small manuals comprising of QR codes, which can be scanned using smartphones to reveal step-by-step information to turn cardboard packaging into useful household items. Earlier this year, the South Korean firm had received the CES 2020 Innovation Award for its new, eco-friendly packaging and promoting the efficient use of resources.
The company is also collaborating with Deezen, a British lifestyle magazine, to encourage other firms and individuals to submit their eco-friendly packaging designs. The global design competition will start on April 6, and the two companies will award the most unique and practical designs. Winning designs will also be used by Samsung for its packaging.
Kangwook Chun, the company's Executive Vice President of Visual Display Business, said, “Consumers are more likely to purchase from a brand that shares similar fundamentals and values as they do, and with our eco-packaging, we believe that we can provide our customers with a new experience that considers the environment as an important way to express themselves.”
