Material You is the new design language that Google has introduced with Android 12. The company behind Android describes it as a completely new way of thinking about design. It takes a hyper-personalized approach to customization.
Samsung today released the One UI 4.0 beta 2. The latest iteration of its Android 12-based firmware now brings Material You color themes to supported devices. It's great to see that one of the biggest Android 12 features has found its way to Samsung devices.
Material You unlocks a new world of customization
The idea behind Material You is to enable users to create designs that are personal to them. Users effectively become co-creators. They can use any wallpaper to create unique Material color palettes that are applied system-wide as well as to native and third-party apps.
This feature was missing from the first One UI 4.0 beta but we've just found it on the One UI 4.0 beta 2. It lets you choose a theme based on the colors of your wallpaper. As you'd expect, there are still a few bugs in this feature.
Sometimes, the personalized theme is applied right after it's selected. On more than one occasion, we had to reboot the device in order for the changes to take effect. It's nothing to worry about. These bugs will be worked out in later versions.
Samsung has only just started rolling out the second beta firmware. It's going to be available to all users participating in the beta program soon.
