The Galaxy Z Fold 8 has turned out to be a solid hit for Samsung, and the company may now be looking to double down on its success by expanding the lineup next year.
A new rumor claims that Samsung will add a second wide foldable to its lineup next year, offering customers two separate Galaxy Z Fold 9 variants to choose from.
Buzz from the Korean blogosphere suggests, citing unnamed sources in the display supply chain, that Samsung is internally testing two new variants of the Galaxy Z Fold 9. One is a larger “Plus” model that has modestly increased dimensions while the other is more along the lines of an FE model with trimmed specifications.
It's claimed that Samsung may choose to launch one of the two new models it's testing alongside the standard Galaxy Z Fold 9. The company is expected to make a final decision on the lineup in the near future.
Earlier reports have suggested that Samsung is open to expanding its wide foldable lineup to provide more options to customers.
It will be interesting to see whether Samsung goes the Plus or the FE route as different considerations will certainly weigh on the decision, including the rising memory chip costs and the prior lackluster response to the FE models for the Galaxy Z Flip foldables.
