Samsung might add Expert RAW to Galaxy Watch Camera Controller app

Samsung's Galaxy Watches and Galaxy phones communicate in many ways. And arguably, one of the most unique outcomes of this cross-device syncing is made possible by the Camera Controller app. The app lets Galaxy Watch users turn their smartwatches into remote controllers and shutter buttons for their smartphone cameras. It's a neat idea, and it works, but it has some limitations. However, Samsung is considering making it better.

Although Camera Controller got several improvements over time, with Samsung even adding zoom controls in January, the app still doesn't offer the richness of the smartphone's viewfinder. And one thing the Camera Controller app is missing is integration with Expert RAW.

Interestingly, this could change at some point in the future. A moderator on the Samsung Community forums says Samsung is reviewing the possibility of integrating the Camera Controller smartwatch app with Expert RAW on mobile phones.

Expert RAW support could be coming to Camera Controller

A Samsung Community user, appropriately named “photographer,” recently asked whether they could capture Expert RAW photos using the Galaxy Watch. You probably know the answer, which is: no, you cannot. However, the interesting part came via a reply from the Community moderator in charge of the camera experience.

While the moderator clarified that Expert RAW is separate from the default Camera app on phones, and thus it is incompatible with the Camera Controller app for smartwatches, the moderator also added that Samsung “will review interlocking related functions in the future.”

This is no guarantee that the Camera Controller app will eventually support Expert RAW, but there is hope it will. At the very least, Samsung has entertained the idea and is reviewing its options. We might get a more powerful and versatile Camera Controller app through an update.

We'll keep you up to speed if the story develops and the company decides to do something about Expert RAW for Galaxy Watches.
