Samsung has published information on the latest security patch, dated July 1, 2024, for Galaxy smartphones and other devices. As always, the information includes details on some of the security vulnerabilities that are fixed via this patch.
The July 2024 security patch fixes 25 vulnerabilities discovered in Android that pose a risk on all devices running the OS. It also provides fixes for 33 vulnerabilities that exclusively affect Galaxy smartphones and tablets.
Of the 25 Android OS vulnerabilities, four are marked critical. The rest are considered to be high-risk. Samsung also mentions that two security fixes aren't applicable to Galaxy devices and weren't included in the patch.
Most of the 33 vulnerabilities exclusively affecting Galaxy devices posed a moderate or high risk and allowed attackers to gain inauthorized access to user data and the ability to launch tasks and activities without needing the user's permission.
The July 2024 patch also includes fixes for two security vulnerabilities that affect select versions of Samsung's smartphone and smartwatch Exynos chips, including half-a-decade old chips like the Exynos 9820, which powered 2019's Galaxy S10 lineup.
The July 2024 security update will start making its way to eligible Galaxy smartphones and tablets soon. Once the update is available for a device, it can be downloaded from its Settings » Software update menu. We also offer the latest firmware for Samsung phones and tablets in the SamMobile firmware library.
