Samsung has announced new soundbars at CES 2024, just in time to accompany its latest Neo QLED and OLED TV lineups. The company unveiled two new soundbar models, including the ultra-thin HW-S800D and the flagship soundbar HW-Q990D.
The HW-S800D is a 1.6-inch-deep soundbar that Samsung has designed for users to fit seamlessly into any space (if it's wide enough).
This soundbar features 10 drivers, including overhead speakers and a center channel for clear vocals. This soundbar works alongside a subwoofer that offers “distortion-free bass in a compact form factor,” Samsung claims.
A new flagship soundbar announced
Next to the ultra-thin soundbar above, Samsung also announced the flagship HW-Q990D model, which boasts an 11.1.4-channel configuration.
Some new features for the HW-Q990D include a Party Mode audio profile and a Private Listening mode that disables the front-firing speakers.
And now, we can see the fruits of Harman's acquisition of Roon last year. The HW-Q990D soundbar supports the high-resolution music streaming service Roon, and HW-Q990D users will be able to beam music to individual speakers or device groups (via Engadget).
The HW-Q990D boasts Dolby Atmos sound and uses AI to optimize the sound for different types of content. Samsung also says this soundbar supports HDMI 2.1 pass-through at up to 4K 120Hz.
Samsung hasn't announced any pricing and release date details, but for what it's worth, the ongoing HW-S800B and HW-Q990C models usually cost $899 and $1,899, respectively, when they're not available at discounts as they are now.
With that in mind, we can assume that the new HW-S800D and HW-Q990D sequels unveiled today at CES 2024 in Las Vegas might cost roughly the same once they go on sale.
