A few hours ago, Samsung announced that it will unveil the next Galaxy S flagship phones on January 22. The company released a short teaser that hints not only the Galaxy S25 but also the next-generation Bixby, which could be making a big comeback.
Galaxy S25 could be the first to get next-generation Bixby
Besides revealing the curved corners of Galaxy S25 series phones, the short teaser video published by Samsung also hints at the next-generation Bixby. The upcoming version of the AI-powered digital voice assistant is powered by large language models (LLMs), making it much more capable of understanding phrases and voice commands in natural language.
It is similar to the new versions of Apple's Siri and Google's Gemini in understanding complex commands and remembering the context of the conversation.
In the teaser video below, a person asks Bixby, “Hey, when is the next Galaxy Unpacked?” and Bixby reveals the date (January 22, 2025). You can see a microphone-shaped icon, and it certainly hints at Bixby.
This upcoming version of Bixby is already available in China. It was launched alongside the Samsung W25 and the Samsung W25 Flip smartphones a few months ago. It can pull information about anything from the web. It can understand what's on the screen and answer questions about it.
It can suggest what clothes you should wear based on weather conditions. It can also get driving directions to a location discussed in messages and much more.
While Samsung has released three beta versions of One UI 7.0 for the Galaxy S24 series, the new Bixby isn't available outside China yet. Samsung's next-generation AI assistant is expected to debut with the Galaxy S25 series in the global markets. It could come to existing phones with a future software update.

Samsung could bring this new version of Bixby to other devices, including compatible microwaves, refrigerators, TVs, and washing machines. With new powerful chips with on-device NPUs, Bixby could come to more Samsung smart devices in the future.
It shows that Samsung has no plans to kill Bixby, especially since the new age of AI assistants and chatbots is on us, thanks to breakthroughs with LLM technologies.
