Last week, Samsung showcased its first-ever OLED gaming monitor. The Odyssey OLED G8 is a 34-inch gaming monitor with an ultrawide aspect ratio and a curved QD-OLED panel. We had a chance to try out the new gaming monitor, and you can watch our hands-on video below.
The Odyssey OLED G8 is a QD-OLED version of the company's Odyssey Neo G8 gaming monitor that was launched a few months ago. The screen has a resolution of 3,440 x 1,440 pixels and features a 175Hz refresh rate and 1800R curvature. Samsung claims the display can cover 99.3% of the DCI-P3 color gamut.
Being a gaming-focused monitor, the Odyssey OLED G8 features AMD FreeSync Premium Pro compatibility. Other features of the monitor include built-in 5W speakers and a Gaming Hub. The Gaming Hub feature, which is also present on Samsung's smart TVs and new gaming monitors, feature access to cloud gaming services like Amazon Luna, Google Stadia, NVIDIA GeForce Now, Utomik, and Xbox Game Pass.
Its ports include a Micro HDMI (2.1) port, Mini DP (1.4) port, and a USB-C port. It also features a height-adjustable stand. Other gaming-centric features include CoreSync and Core Lighting+, which light up the monitor's rear in RGB lighting and match the colors with what's displayed on the screen.
The Odyssey OLED G8 will be available globally starting Q4 0f 2022. Samsung hasn't revealed the pricing of the monitor yet, but you should expect a premium price tag.
