In almost exactly one month, Samsung is expected to unveil its next flagship lineup. The Galaxy S24, S24+, and S24 Ultra are likely to go official on January 17 and could hit retail shelves by the end of the same month.
In addition to hardware upgrades, the S24 series will bring new software tricks and a newer version of One UI. One UI 6.1 will debut on the Galaxy S24 lineup, and Samsung is no doubt working hard to make sure it has released One UI 6.0 for every eligible device by then so it can shift all its focus to One UI 6.1.
Almost all Galaxy devices that are running Android 14 and One UI 6.0 are expected to be eligible for the One UI 6.1 update, but when can we expect the update to start rolling out to those devices?
One UI 6.1's AI features might delay its release
If we make assumptions based on the One UI 5.1 update, One UI 6.1 could start arriving on existing devices sometime in January itself, as One UI 5.1 was released for the Galaxy S22 lineup around two weeks after the Galaxy S23 series was unveiled.
In the worst-case scenario, Samsung could take up to a month after the Galaxy S24's unveiling to bring One UI 6.1 to older devices, as that is how long the company took to release One UI 4.1 and One UI 3.1 back in 2022 and 2021.
In fact, it's highly likely that Samsung will need extra time to work on One UI 6.1, as One UI 6.1 will have several AI-powered features that the company will want to test on existing devices thoroughly before starting the rollout. But it's all speculation for now, and it will probably be a few weeks before we hear anything concrete on the matter.
