Samsung had to close various factories and stores across the world due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Some of its R&D center employees and factory workers had even tested positive for the virus in the past. Now, the company has set up an in-house COVID-19 testing center in South Korea.

The South Korean tech giant has now become the first private firm in South Korea to have a private COVID-19 testing facility. Samsung has set up the testing center at its Hwaseong plant to ramp up its anti-virus measures and to keep its employees safe. The center will manage specimen collection, conduct diagnostic tests, and execute other related tasks with the help of six medical professionals.

The company seems to have set up its own testing center to save time in testing thousands of its full-time and contract employees for the COVID-19 infection. The company will also help the residents of the Hwaseong city with its new testing facility. Samsung said that it will consider opening more testing centers at its production sites in South Korea.

Samsung's smartphone and TV businesses have taken a hit due to the COVID-19 pandemic related closures and financial crisis across the world. However, its chip business experienced strong sales due to more people learning and working from their homes. The company expects to return to normalcy by the end of 2020 or in the first quarter of 2021.
