Samsung Pay Touch app turns your Galaxy smartphone into a PoS terminal

Samsung has quietly launched the Samsung Pay Touch app to target small businesses in Canada. The app transforms compatible Galaxy smartphones into PoS (Point-of-Sale) terminals that can accept contactless payments from customers. So far, Samsung Pay has been limited to customers making payments through their Galaxy smartphones and wearables, but with this solution, the Korean company is taking it to the merchant side of things as well.

The biggest advantage of Samsung Pay Touch is that it doesn’t require any additional hardware to set up. As long as you have a compatible Galaxy smartphone, you can download the app and complete the registration to start using it right away. Supported models include Galaxy S8/S8+, Note8, S9/S9+, Note9, and S10e/S10/S10+. It is safe to assume the Galaxy Note 10 will also join the list once it is available.

Credit card purchases are charged at 2.6% per transaction, while debit cards incur a flat $0.10 per transaction. Merchants will get the payments automatically deposited in their bank accounts within 48 hours. Samsung’s solution also comes with a long list of features that can rival dedicated PoS systems.

Samsung seems to have launched this app in May itself, but it went mostly unnoticed by the press. The app made its debut in the Galaxy Store but eventually made its way to the Google Play Store as well. The Play Store listing has just 1,000+ downloads and a 2.3 rating, with many users complaining about registration issues. As of now, the app seems to be unavailable outside Canada.

Thanks for the tip, Lyndex Kim Quesada!
