Samsung racing ahead to complete work on its second Texas chip factory

Samsung has concentrated its US chipmaking investments in Taylor, Texas. It's ramping up work as demand for advanced chipmaking grows in the country.

It has been revealed that a large part of the foundational work for Samsung's second chip fab in Taylor, Texas, has already been completed, ahead of the opening of its first fab that's also located there.

This was confirmed by Taylor Mayor Jim Buzan in an interview with a Korean media outlet. The mayor confirmed that much of the foundational work on the second chipmaking factory has “already been done.” Samsung's also set to make the first of its chipmaking fabs in Taylor operational by the end of this year.

Buzan mentioned that Samsung had put in the piers and foundation of Fab 2 when it was building Fab 1, and that this was preplanned by the company years back.

Samsung's keep up the pace on works even as it's yet to receive the $4.745 billion CHIPS and Science Act funds that were granted to it by the previous administration in 2024. These funds were committed to many local and international semiconductor companies to support chip manufacturing in the United States.

Samsung's latest state-of-the-art chipmaking facilities in Texas are set to begin production. Media reports from South Korea suggest that the trial production for Fab 1 may begin as early as next month, with the facility being operationalized before the end of 2026.
