Apple launched its first tablets with an OLED display, the iPad Pro 11 and the iPad Pro 13, in 2024. The Cupertino-based tech giant sources these panels from Samsung Display. Now, Apple is planning to adopt OLED screens for its smallest tablet, the iPad mini, and the brand is expected to source the panels for it too from the South Korean tech giant.
On the Naver blog, Lanzuk claims that the next iPad mini’s OLED display will be an 8.4-inch LTPS unit with a 60Hz refresh rate. The tipster also says that Apple will be sourcing these panels from Samsung Display, and the South Korean tech giant has already kicked off mass production of these displays at its A2 G5.5 assembly line (via Mac Rumors).
Apple has sourced OLED display panels for almost every product from Samsung Displays, right from its first product featuring it, the Apple Watch, to the latest, iPad Pro. That’s mainly because the South Korean tech giant is a world leader when it comes to innovation, technology, quality, and mass production of OLED displays.
If this report is accurate, Samsung Display stands to generate even more revenue from its long-standing partnership with Apple.
