Samsung is one of the top refrigerator brands in the USA, but the company's success appears marred by increasing customer complaints. Over the past couple of years, Samsung refrigerators have reportedly recorded the highest number of customer complaints in the USA, and the Consumer Product Safety Commission is now leading an investigation.
Three out of four complaints filed since 2020 concerning refrigerator safety come from Samsung customers. And as of July 2022, consumers have registered 471 safety complaints on refrigerator safety. This is the highest figure since 2021. (via USA Today).
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission has launched an investigation
Although the Consumer Product Safety Commission hasn't issued a recall or a warning, reports say that the agency confirmed an ongoing investigation. The commission was unable to reveal more, as disclosing such details would hinder the investigation.
According to consumer reports, some of the most common problems concerning refrigerators are malfunctioning ice makers, water leakages, fire hazards, over-freezing, and food spoilage due to fridges supposedly running above the safe temperature.
A Samsung spokesperson talking to USA Today said that “millions of consumers across the United States enjoy and rely on their Samsung refrigerators each day. We stand behind the quality, innovation, and performance of our appliances, as well as our industry-recognized customer support.” Upon interviewers failing to provide information about affected customers, Samsung added: “Since our request for specific customer details was declined here, we are unable to comment further on any specific experiences referenced.”
In the meantime, Samsung customers that are unhappy with the alleged lack of support took to social media and formed a Facebook group. The group has over 100,000 members, so its popularity far exceeds the number of complaints recorded by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission.
