Samsung was the second-biggest tablet brand in India last year, according to the latest market research numbers. Apple led the tablet market in India despite higher-priced iPads, which says a lot about the popularity of iPads. However, Samsung did really well in the tablet segment last year.

Samsung was a close second in India's tablet market in 2023

According to the latest numbers from market research firm Cybermedia Research, Apple was India's number one tablet brand with a market share of 25%, while Samsung ranked close second with a market share of 23%. The overall tablet market declined 14% in 2023 compared to 2022. Looks like the post-COVID-19 pandemic surge in tablet sales has subsided after a couple of years when people were forced to study and work from their homes.

Sales of 5G-equipped tablets increased, though, with a 43% growth rate year-over-year. The sales of mid-range tablets (priced between INR 20,000 and INR 30,000) also grew 95%. The most popular tablets in India included iPad 9th Gen and iPad 10th Gen. In Q4 2023, the popular tablets from Samsung's lineup included the Galaxy Tab A7 Lite and the Galaxy Tab S6 Lite. Cybermedia Research says that the tablet market could grow at 5-10% year-over-year in 2024.

Samsung launched more affordable options in the form of the Galaxy Tab A9, Galaxy Tab A9+, Galaxy Tab S9 FE, and the Galaxy Tab S9 FE+. Moreover, it may launch the Galaxy Tab S6 Lite (2024), Galaxy Tab S10, Galaxy Tab S10+, and Galaxy Tab S10 Ultra later this year.

Menka Kumari, Analyst in Industry Intelligence Group, CyberMedia Research, said, “There is a rising consumer demand for diverse tablet options in India, including premium, 5G and value-for-money tablet offerings. This growth is particularly noticeable in the B2B sector and online purchases. The Indian tablet market is showing resilience and potential for continued progress.”
