It's been almost a year since Samsung announced the high-performance 990 PRO SSD with Heatsink. And ten months after the storage solution got unveiled in August 2022, Samsung is finally bringing the heatsinked solution to Australia, which as many of you know, is one of the world's hottest countries.
The Samsung SSD 990 PRO with Heatsink is now available Down Under through Samsung's online shop and select resellers. It's available with 1TB and 2TB of storage for $219 and $399 (AUD), respectively. Both storage variants use LPDDR4 DRAM.
Even though the SSD has RGB lights, that's not why it was dubbed the “Champion Maker.” The reason is that the SSD can reach sequential read/write speeds of up to 7,450 MB/s and 6,900 MB/s. And on the security side, the drive takes advantage of data encryption technologies like AES 256-bit Full Disk Encryption, TCG/Opal V2.0, and Encrypted Drive (IEEE1667).
A perfect storage solution for high-end PCs and the PlayStation 5
Samsung's 990 PRO with Heatsink is among the few PCIe Gen 4.0 NVMe 2.0 SSDs that boast a good enough built-in cooling solution to be a perfect storage solution for high-performance laptops, desktops, the Sony PlayStation 5 console.
The heatsinked model meets PGI-SIG D8 standards and features Advanced Head Dissipation Technology, which allows the SSD to operate at optimal temperature for hours of gameplay without performance degradation. But in case something goes south, no pun intended, Samsung Australia offers the 990 PRO with Heatsink with a five-year limited warrant.
