A new survey targeting the US consumer market reveals that Samsung's Tizen is the most popular OS (operating system) for smart TVs in the USA, followed by other platforms like Roku, LG's WebOS, Amazon's Fire TV, and Vizio SmartCast.
Within the 74% of TV-owning households in the USA, 88% of TV users rely on the native operating system that shipped with their devices. And according to a recent survey by Hub Entertainment Research, 56% of these users who use native TVOS rely on Samsung's Tizen platform. (via NextTV)
In other words, Samsung, particularly its Tizen platform, is the most popular among TV customers in the USA. The survey was conducted with the help of 5,204 US customers age 16-74.
The Tizen platform is bound to get more popular
While Tizen OS has become the most popular TV platform in the USA through Samsung's smart TV portfolio, it is no longer exclusive to Samsung TVs. The Korean tech giant launched a licensing program last year that allows other TV manufacturers to adopt Tizen for their products.
The first three smart TV manufacturers to want to use Tizen OS signed an agreement with Samsung recently, and their first Tizen OS models are headed for a market release in several countries.
