It hasn't been that long since Samsung announced and released the Galaxy Tab A9 series of low-cost tablets, but the company appears to be giving them out in some markets, or, at least in the Philippines.
Starting today and until February 29, Samsung customers can get two Galaxy Tab A9 LTE tablets for the price of one. The Galaxy Tab A9 costs 10,990 Philippine pesos, or the equivalent of about $196. But right now, customers can get two slates for that price. This might be the best late Valentine's Day gift Samsung could have offered for tablet enthusiasts.
The promotional offer is available only for the Galaxy Tab A9 LTE, not the Tab A9+, and is now live at Samsung online stores and partner retail channels Lazada, Shopee, and TikTok.
Samsung might be trying too hard to get rid of the Galaxy Tab A9. Uses DeX as a selling point
The Galaxy Tab A9 probably isn't a best-seller, which could be why Samsung is willing to cut a 50% discount for a limited time. The Tab S9 doesn't have the usual Samsung tablet features like an S Pen or DeX mode, but it is a decent multimedia tablet that can play most mobile games on lower graphical settings.
But wait a minute. How come Samsung's Newsroom portal in the Philippines dedicated a paragraph to explaining and promoting DeX for the Galaxy Tab A9? As far as we know — even based on Samsung's global launch — only the Galaxy Tab A9+ variant supports DeX on-device, and neither the base nor Plus supports DeX on an external monitor. What's going on here?
It appears that Samsung may have gotten carried away trying to get rid of the Galaxy Tab A9 and sell some units. The announcement in the Philippines mentions things like connecting your Tab A9 to a screen, like a TV or monitor, for portable work, and “impress your customers with polished output presentations.”
Unless things have changed magically through firmware updates since the Tab A9 went official last year, Samsung appears to have made a grave error here, so be warned. Don't expect DeX from your base Galaxy Tab A9 tablets if you go ahead and buy two of them through this promotional offer.
If you are looking for a budget Samsung tablet with DeX on-device and an S Pen, you should be looking elsewhere. Your cheapest option is probably the Fan Edition Tab S9. But you likely won't find this kind of amazing deal where you can buy two FE tablets for the price of one.
