Samsung has unveiled their new Family Hub refrigerator at CES 2018. The new Family Hub refrigerator comes with a long list of features pertaining to food management, home automation, and entertainment.

The new Family Hub refrigerator offers features like checking what’s inside the fridge from anywhere, leaving notes on the ‘White Board’, seeing who is at the front door through a connected doorbell, controlling the thermostat, viewing CCTV footage, recipe suggestions, shopping recommendations, etc.

While some of these features are completely new, some are updates to existing features in the current Family Hub refrigerators. Samsung has not announced if some of these new smart features will come to the existing refrigerators via a software update.

Bixby and SmartThings integration

The new smart refrigerators come with deeper Bixby integration and support for Samsung’s SmartThings IoT ecosystem. With the help of the SmartThings app, users can connect the Family Hub to various SmartThings-supported devices and control them from the Family Hub screen. Samsung says, since the Family Hub comes with Bixby virtual assistant built-in, it can recognize individual voices and offer personalized information and answers relevant to the user.

The new Family Hub refrigerator’s long list of features doesn’t stop there. The new Family Hub sports an AKG Speaker and comes with TV and Music options to take care of the entertainment needs in the kitchen. Users can stream music, mirror Samsung Smart TV on to the Family Hub’s screen, and share content from smartphones.

Samsung’s Family Hub refrigerator is a winner of the 2018 CES Best of Innovation award and will be on display at CES 2018. The new Family Hub will be available for purchase this spring. There is no information on pricing yet.
