Samsung may have some interesting upgrades in store for the upcoming Galaxy S24 flagship phone series, which should be released in early 2024 if history is any indication. According to a new “solid” rumor passed through the Twitter grapevine, the Galaxy S24 base models will boast more RAM.
This rumor suggests that the standard Galaxy S24 and the Galaxy S24+ will feature 12GB of RAM, while the Galaxy S24 Ultra will boast 16GB of RAM. That's neither the minimum nor maximum amount of RAM. In other words, all storage variants will supposedly get 12 or 16GB of RAM; no more, no less.
In theory, more RAM means that the Galaxy S24 should be able to handle more background tasks and keep more apps open in the background. In other words, more RAM should help power users, first and foremost, such as people that push the limits on RAM through Samsung DeX.
Galaxy S24 Ultra to have twice the RAM of the 2023 model?
For context, the base Galaxy S23 and the Galaxy S23+ each have 8GB of RAM, no matter the storage variant. Therefore, the 2024 models would gain 4GB additional RAM across the board – assuming the rumor is true.
The Galaxy S23 Ultra offers two options, including 8GB of RAM for some storage variants and 12GB of RAM for others. But it never goes as high as 16GB. The rumor claims that the Galaxy S24 Ultra will.
It seems a bit odd that Samsung would double the base storage of the next Ultra model in just one year. But it's not impossible. After all, Samsung's Ultra flagships have had 16GB of RAM before, except not for the base configuration. Both the Galaxy S20 Ultra and S21 Ultra had 16GB of RAM as an option, but Samsung dialed it back a notch with the release of the Galaxy S22 Ultra, presumably because it deemed 16GB unnecessary.
In other news concerning the upcoming Galaxy S24 series, Samsung may release it with a new Exynos 2400 chipset in some markets. The SoC supposedly has 10 CPU cores, and the tech giant is now working on lowering the chip's power consumption and preventing high temperatures. The Galaxy S24 trio of flagships may be unveiled in Q1 2024.
