With the ongoing component shortage here to stay for a while, it'll be tricky for Samsung to ensure a steady supply of Galaxy S22s. Samsung Electronics' CEO personally inspected the company's manufacturing facilities in Vietnam to make sure that there are enough units in the market.
Samsung wants to ensure that there are enough Galaxy S22 units to go around
A new report from The Elec tells us that Samsung has increased Galaxy S22 production by 20%. It plans to manufacture over 30 million smartphones in total; 12 million units of the Galaxy S22, Galaxy S22+ and Galaxy S22 Ultra. It is clear that Samsung anticipates high demand for the Galaxy S22 series and doesn't want to end up with shortages.
Whether or not Samsung manages to actually sell the 30+ million smartphones it has manufactured remains to be seen. The vanilla Galaxy S22 and Galaxy S22+ do offer significant upgrades over their predecessors and they are relatively affordable compared to other high-end offerings.
The Galaxy S22 Ultra, on the other hand, could find fewer takers due to its price tag and the fact that it is a Galaxy S21 Ultra with a fresh coat of paint and a few innards swapped out. The included S Pen silo and S Pen could, however, attract some die-hard Galaxy Note enthusiasts, but that is unlikely to account for a lot of people.
