Samsung validates faster LPDDR6 RAM for Galaxy S27 Ultra's Snapdragon chip

Qualcomm has unveiled its new flagship chipsets this week, including the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6. There have been rumors that this chipset might be utilized for the Galaxy S27 Ultra in some regions.

Such a powerful chipset paired with faster LPDDR6 RAM would unlock huge performance gains. Samsung is making that possible as it's now the first memory supplier to validate faster LPDDR6 RAM for the latest Snapdragon chipset.

Samsung has announced that it has validated its 16GB LPDDR6 RAM on the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 chipset. The memory chip was operating at I/O speeds of up to 10.7Gbps.

Faster LPDDR6 RAM will provide the bandwidth and power efficiency that's required to support more powerful on-device AI experiences. Since that's the name of the game for flagship devices now, more punchy hardware is certainly required to ensure that flagship phones remain competitive.

It remains to be seen, though, what the final hardware stack will be for Samsung's 2027 flagship, the Galaxy S27 Ultra. Some rumors have suggested that the company might equip this device with the Exynos 2700, at least in some regions.

There have also been rumors that the Galaxy S27 series could stick with the previous-gen LPDDR5X memory as Samsung's mobile division seeks cost optimizations amid the current memory crisis.
