Earlier this year, Samsung introduced its creator-focussed high-end monitor, the ViewFinity S9. Given the announcement timeframe and specifications, it was seen as a direct rival to Apple's Studio Display 5K monitor. Now, the ViewFinity S9 is officially ready for launch and has a price tag.
ViewFinity S9 5K monitor costs half as much as Apple Studio Display
The ViewFinity S9 monitor will be launched in the US in August 2023. It carries a price tag of $1,599, which undercuts the Apple Studio Display by $200. And when you consider that the ViewFinity S9 comes with a height-adjustable stand and a matte panel, it appears even more affordable as the Apple Studio Display costs $2,299 with a matte-textured panel and a tilt and height-adjustable stand.
Samsung's latest high-end monitor features a 27-inch IPS LCD QLED panel with 5K resolution and a peak brightness of around 600 nits. It features DisplayHDR 600 certification. It has a 60Hz refresh rate, a 5ms response time, a 1,000:1 contrast ratio, and a color accuracy with Delta E ≦ 2.1. It has a built-in color calibration engine for improved color accuracy.
The monitor has one Thunderbolt 4 port with 90W USB PD power output for charging connected laptops. The ViewFinity S9 has three more USB Type-C ports and one mini DisplayPort. The monitor also features a built-in SlimFit 4K webcam and stereo speakers with Adaptive Sound+.
The monitor has a VESA 100 x 100 mount and comes with a metal stand. Have a look at our hands-on video of the ViewFinity S9 5K monitor below.
ViewFinity S9 runs Tizen, and it has built-in speakers and plenty of ports
What sets the ViewFinity S9 apart from every other competing monitor from rival brands is the inclusion of the Smart Hub. The monitor runs Tizen and has access to all audio and video streaming services. It also features Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Bixby, SmartThings Hub, Samsung TV Plus, and cloud gaming via Samsung Gaming Hub. It comes bundled with a remote controller, too.
