Samsung wants foldables to be half of all flagship sales by 2025

Samsung recently unveiled the highly-anticipated foldable smartphones, the Galaxy Z Fold 4 and the Galaxy Z Flip 4 at the Unpacked event on August 10. Both devices seem pretty similar, design-wise, to their previous generation, but there are some good-to-have hardware upgrades.

With the latest Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Galaxy Z Flip 4, Samsung wants to capture half of the flagship smartphone sales by 2025. This statement comes from one of the company's top executives in New York (via BusinessKorea). Roh Tae-moon, head of Samsung Electronics' mobile experience (MX) business division, at a news conference said, “We will make every effort to make the year 2022 the first year when we sell more than 10 million foldable phones.

Samsung froze the pricing of the Galaxy Z Flip 4 and Z Fold 4 to attract greater interest

Roh said that Samsung plans to increase the share of foldable smartphones to 50 percent of its Galaxy flagship sales by 2025. Apparently, Samsung wants its foldables to sit beside the Galaxy S-series flagship phone, and capture the flagship smartphone market. This is practically the reason why Samsung froze the pricing of the foldables.

In Korea, the Galaxy Z Fold 4 256GB costs 1,998,700 won, which is similar to its predecessor, despite a rise in won/dollar exchange rates and high inflation. Moreover, both the Galaxy Z Flip 4 and Galaxy Z Fold 4 cost the same, i.e., $999.99 and $1799.99, respectively.

Roh further added that the launch of the Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Z Flip 4 will help Samsung consolidate its leading position in the global smartphone market. The Unpacked event was the first offline event for Samsung in two years and six months since February 2020. Samsung also opened a new Experience Space in New York in the hope to attract greater interest from the US.
