Samsung won over LATAM region in Q2 thanks to these phones

Samsung topped the smartphone popularity charts in the LATAM (Latin American) region in the second quarter of 2024, but no thanks to the Galaxy S24 series or the pinnacle of the Galaxy A range.

Industry watchers at Counterpoint Research revealed that two of Samsung's most budget-oriented phones led the LATAM region in Q2. They were the Galaxy A15 and the Galaxy A05.

As surprising as it may sound, this is a common trend in LATAM, where a year ago, Samsung's Galaxy A04e and Galaxy A14 captured the top spots on the podium.

This year, in Q2, Samsung's Galaxy A15 LTE led the Top 10 best-selling smartphone list with a market share of 6%. The second best-selling phone was the Galaxy A05, with a 5% market share.

Galaxy 55 was replaced by Xiaomi's Redmi

According to this data, Samsung earned the most spots in the Top 10 best-selling list. Aside from the Galaxy A15 and A05, the Galaxy A05s also made the list in 8th place, and the Galaxy A35 was the 9th best-seller in LATAM.

However, Samsung had six phones in the Top-10 a year ago, including the Galaxy A54. This year, in Q2, Samsung had only four phones on the list, and the newer Galaxy A55 didn't make the cut, even though it is the best phone in the 2024 Galaxy A lineup.

Counterpoint Research suggests that the Galaxy A54 (or its A55 sequel, if you will) got replaced by the Xiaomi Redmi Note 13 as phone buyers gravitated toward cheaper phones.

The Galaxy A55 is budget-friendly but not necessarily cheap and wasn't built cheaply, either. It has many characteristics that are usually found on pricier phones. But despite offering good value for money, it was reportedly too expensive for LATAM's most-wanted list.

No high-end Samsung phone climbed up the ranking in the LATAM region, but Apple was lucky enough to have its iPhone 13 occupy the 10th spot with a 2% market share.

The Moto brand captured 4th, 5th, and 6th places with the G24, G54, and G04 models, respectively.

As for the market winners, industry watchers say the Galaxy A05 gained buyers thanks to its bigger screen compared to the previous model and that the Galaxy A15 attracted customers with its AMOLED display.
