A patent application filed by Samsung two years ago may have given us our first look at an actual product related to the company's mixed reality headset. While the headset's design is still a mystery, the patent application includes a photo of what could be the controllers that come bundled with the headset.
The photo also shows the charging dock and how the two controllers can be attached to the dock to form a compact single unit. According to the patent, these controllers are designed for use with a “virtual reality instrument.”
Samsung XR headset controllers could look like this
That doesn't necessarily mean they are meant for the XR headset Samsung has been developing the last couple of years. But it's certainly a possibility, particularly since this patent was published in August this year, six months after Samsung's first official teaser for its yet-to-be-named XR headset.
Samsung confirmed in its latest earnings call that it will launch its XR headset sometime next year. That's as vague as a launch timeline can get, though considering how Samsung is still keeping everything under wraps, we can assume that the device will not make its debut before the second half of 2025.
