Samsung’s Vietnam facilities to use more green energy

Sustainability is at the forefront of what Samsung does. The company has made many efforts in recent years to decrease its environmental footprint through a greater share of renewables in its energy mix, the increased use of recycled materials in device manufacturing and packaging as well as efforts to reduce e-waste.

Samsung runs energy-intensive factories across the globe so it can have the greatest impact by opting to use renewable energy sources to power these facilities. The company has made another step in the right direction now by committing to use more green energy at its factories in Vietnam.

Samsung to buy more renewable energy for factories

Vietnam has one of Samsung's largest manufacturing facilities where the company makes everything from smartphones to other mobile devices and home appliances. Naturally, these factories require a lot of power, and a shift to green energy will certainly reduce their environmental footprint.

The government in Vietnam recently allowed companies to buy renewable energy directly from private power products. This means Samsung's Vietnam factories can now buy green energy directly from independent power producers which it fully intends to do. This would reduce capacity constraints from the state-owned power producer in the event that it's unable to provide the level of renewable energy that Samsung seeks for its facilities.

With companies being able to buy directly from private producers, this also serves as an incentive for those products to further strengthen their renewable energy generation capacities, as there's only going to be increasing demand from major companies, specifically Samsung, which has recently committed to investing billions more in expanding its manufacturing facilities in Vietnam.
