We've entered the month of October, and Samsung Developer Conference 2022 (SDC22) is just around the corner. The Korean tech giant is getting ready to host its tech sessions next week and has prepared a handful of interesting topics to explore and discuss in great detail. We knew SmartThings was on the table since last month, but the company has now revealed a few more details about its forthcoming keynotes.

Samsung has scheduled SDC2022 to take place on October 12. The event will be streamed live from the Moscone North convention center in San Francisco, California. Nine Samsung engineers and executives will be present on stage at SDC 2022, where they'll host dozens of sessions. Some will be streamed live, while other sessions will be available on-demand. The hosts will be discussing various aspects besides SmartThings, including Tizen and One UI 5.0.

Among Samsung's various keynotes for SDC22 there are “What's new in One UI 5,” “SmartThings Find: Find alongside 200+ million users,” “SmartThings Energy service,” “What's new in Tizen,” and “Tizen everywhere.”

Concerning the latter two topics, Samsung will discuss the latest features available in Tizen 7.0 and the progress of its licensing program. Samsung says that since September 22, more than 10 TV brands have adopted Tizen OS for their TVs in Europe, Australia, and Turkey. Three brands were revealed last month.

Evidently, Samsung will also talk about One UI 5.0 on October 12, but whether or not this means the update will be available publicly by then is unclear. Samsung does intend to release One UI 5.0 and Android 13 for several Galaxy devices before the end of 2022.

Last but not least, the Samsung Developer Conference will also host the Hacker's Playground. As usual, Samsung is inviting hackers and developers to partake in coding challenges and play Capture the Flag games for a chance to win prizes.

Will Samsung’s latest attempt at a cultural shift be another failure?

Samsung has been facing strong headwinds for a few years now. First, it was the supply glut in the memory market, which significantly reduced profits. That was followed by its inability to beat SK Hynix and become the frontrunner for HBM3E chips, potentially leading to billions in lost revenue. To make matters worse, Samsung Foundry […]
