SmartThings lights now dance in sync with your YouTube Music playlist

Samsung launched SmartThings Music Sync back in 2022 to provide users with smart lights the ability to sync their lights with music. This provided an elevated home experience as the lights would dance in sync with their favorite beats. Philips Hue was the first lightning partner for this feature.

Music Sync worked with many different music apps to let users set the mood. There's now a major addition to that list. Samsung has announced that Music Sync now supports YouTube Music, thereby expanding this feature's reach to a lot more users.

Sync your Philips Hue lights with YouTube Music

Music Sync functions very differently compared to other light synchronization platforms. Others use microphones and that often leads to a wonky experience as they pick up non-music sounds. On the other hand, Music Sync seamlessly integrates with music apps, extracting audio information from the app itself and thus providing a far more improved light sync experience.

This is precisely how it works with YouTube Music as well. It's actually a deeper integration, with new buttons within the Music Sync app that let you access familiar YouTube Music settings without having to switch apps, such as Relax, Party, and Workout playlists. The color preset then automatically shifts to best align with the audio.

It's nice to see Samsung rolling out this integration ahead of the holidays where a lot of people will be entertaining and reconnecting with their loved ones. This lets them set the vibe just the way they want.

More partners for Music Sync may also be announced in the near future. Samsung confirmed that SmartThings will bring more partner companies into the fold later this year to further enrich Music Sync.
