Samsung's first Fan Edition Galaxy S smartphone is getting the latest security update this week. Both the LTE and 5G variants of the Galaxy S20 FE are being updated with the April 2024 security patch in various European countries.
The update is available for the Snapdragon-powered Galaxy S20 FE models at this time and sports the build numbers G780GXXS9EXC6 and G781BXXSAHXC6 for the LTE and 5G variants respectively.
Launched in late 2020, the Galaxy S20 FE is the only Galaxy S20 model that is still eligible for monthly security updates. The Galaxy S20, Galaxy S20+, and Galaxy S20 Ultra were recently downgraded to the quarterly security update schedule following the completion of their four-year run on the market.
The Galaxy S20 FE was also downgraded to quarterly updates along with the other models, but that was an error that Samsung fixed soon after. The S20 FE will get monthly updates for at least another five months until it turns four, after which it will join its siblings in receiving security updates less frequently.
You can download the latest update on your Galaxy S20 FE by navigating to its Settings » Software update menu and tapping Download and install. The new update's firmware files are also available in our firmware archive for those who wish to update their phone manually, though this method will require a Windows PC.
