The Snapdragon variant of the Galaxy S21 FE was the first S21 FE model to receive the April 2023 software update, with the update making its debut in the USA a week ago. Samsung is now targeting the Snapdragon Galaxy S21 FE in other markets and bringing them up-to-date as well.
At the time of this writing, the update is being released in a number of European countries, and oth unlocked and carrier models are being updated. The firmware version accompanying the update is G990BXXU4EWC7 and the security patch level is getting bumped up to April 1, 2023.
Galaxy S21 FE April update brings new Gallery features
The update is a massive 1GB download over the air, and that's because it brings some new features to the S21 FE. It's unclear what features those are, but users say the features include new Gallery functionality that was introduced with the Galaxy S23 series, and we assume at least Image Clipper is part of the package.
It is, however, important to note that Samsung has been a little inconsistent with the rollout of the Image Clipper feature and its availability varies from country to country, so you might have to wait for another update if the one we're talking about here doesn't add Image Clipper support to your phone (while you wait, you can check out how Image Clipper works so you can start using it as soon as it arrives on your S21 FE).
If you own a Galaxy S21 FE, you can check for the update through the phone's Settings » Software update menu. We also have firmware for the new update available in our firmware archive for those who would like to manually upgrade their phone with the use of a Windows PC. Just be sure to download the right firmware for your country before attempting the manual upgrade method.
