After launching the Galaxy S24 in January with One UI 6.1 onboard, Samsung revealed that some of its AI features will be released to older high-end phones with the One UI 6.1 update. That made Galaxy S22 owners sad (and angry?), knowing their phones will not get AI features. However, there is some good news for them.

Galaxy S22 could get some AI features from Galaxy S24

Samsung MX CEO TM Roh said he is reviewing whether Galaxy AI features can be brought to older phones, including the Galaxy S22. He revealed this during the company's 55th annual general shareholders meeting earlier today.

He said, “Galaxy AI is aiming for ‘hybrid AI' that combines cloud-based AI and on-device AI technology that is greatly affected by hardware performance. In order to do on-device AI that takes these hardware limitations into account, many efforts are needed. Resources and efforts are being invested.

However, this doesn't mean that the Galaxy S22 will get those features for sure, but it is an indication that Samsung is testing the stability of those features. AI features are also being tested on other older high-end phones, but TM Roh didn't reveal the names of those devices. The One UI 6.1 update will start rolling out later this month, and the rollout should be completed before the second half of this year.

Earlier this year, Samsung revealed that Galaxy AI features will come to the Galaxy S23, Galaxy S23+, Galaxy S23 Ultra, Galaxy S23 FE, Galaxy Z Flip 5, Galaxy Z Fold 5, and the Galaxy Tab S9 series. Those features include Circle to Search, Browsing Assist, Note Assist, and Generative AI-powered image and video editing.

You can check out all the AI features that Samsung introduced with the Galaxy S24 series in our in-depth video below.

Samsung is testing rollable and slideable phones already

TM Roh also revealed that the company is working on rollable and slideable phones, and the testing of those devices is underway. He said that a lot of research is needed to bring new form factors to the market. According to him, the completeness of the product and if customers would find value in it also needs to be checked.
