In this year's TV shootout conducted by Value Electronics (via TechRadar) just outside of New York City, the Sony XR-A95K won the best 4K TV award. This award was bestowed upon Sony by a panel of TV testing experts, and they deduced that the Sony XR-A95K is the best among the rest of the competing 4K TVs. Interestingly, Sony's XR-A95K uses Samsung's QD-OLED panel that was unveiled earlier this year.
Value Electronics has been hosting the TV shootout event for almost two decades. But because of the pandemic, it was canceled in 2020. All the top contenders were put in the room and were calibrated for their maximum picture quality, so all TVs get an even playing field. The top performer is crowned the ‘King of TV‘ and the maker of the TV gets an award. Sony's QD-OLED TV got first place in almost every testing category in the shootout, followed closely by Samsung's own S95B QD-OLED TV, which also uses the same technology as the Sony XR-A95K.
However, the LG G2 OLED was also close to Sony's QD-OLED, hinting that regular OLED is still a viable contender. But the future of the new TV technology will combine the best qualities of OLED and QD-OLED.
Interestingly, Sony's award-winning XR-A95K is the most expensive 4K TV that you can buy, which is understandable as it uses next-gen technology. At just half the price, the Samsung S95B QD-OLED TV looks like a great deal since it was the close second in terms of performance.
