Many users have wished for a feature that lets them hide WhatsApp online status from their contacts. This will prevent people from seeing when they're online on the app, providing another layer of much-needed privacy.

Aside from existing great features like WhatsApp Web, the Meta-owned service has also been expanding its privacy features. It recently added the option to hide Last seen status from specific contacts as well.

New feature lets you hide WhatsApp online status on your Android phone

The folks at Wabetainfo have discovered a new setting in WhatsApp beta for Android version 2.22.16.12. There's a new setting that enables you to hide WhatsApp online status. This feature is synced with your settings for Last seen. You can either hide WhatsApp online status from everyone or only those who are able to see your Last seen status.

Tying this feature with the Last seen status is a bit restricting. Many users would appreciate having the ability to hide WhatsApp online status from one person. This feature doesn't allow that in its present state. It can either hide the online status from everyone or only those you've opted to show your Last seen status to.

Nevertheless, this is an excellent addition to the official WhatsApp app. This will go a long way in preventing users from relying on third-party solutions that offer enhanced privacy features.

It's essential for WhatsApp to provide users with more features. Competing messaging apps like Telegram have a lot more features. It's good to see that WhatsApp is now making diligent efforts to bridge the feature gap.
