Spotify has announced that it is rolling out music videos on the platform in beta. That’s right. You can now watch music videos on Spotify.

Spotify is rolling out the feature to its apps for Android, iOS, Mac, Windows, and TV platforms. There’s no mention of the web in the blog post. The ability to stream music videos is limited to Premium subscribers. At the moment, it is available in eleven regions: Brazil, Colombia, Germany, Indonesia, Italy, Kenya, the Netherlands, the Phillippines, Poland, Sweden, and the UK. Currently, only music videos from “Ed Sheeran, Doja Cat, and Ice Spice, or local favorites like Aluna and Asake” are available on the platform.

How to watch music videos on Spotify?

Once the feature becomes available on your device, you should be able to see a ‘Switch to Video’ option on the now-playing screen when you are listening to an audio song. Once you click on the button, the app will start playing the video version of that song from the beginning in the place of the album art. When the video starts playing, that option will be replaced with the ‘Switch to Audio’ option. Once you tap it, the app will replace the video with the album art, and continue playing the audio version of the song.

At the moment, there’s no information if Spotify is rolling out the ability to stream music videos with updates to its apps for those platforms or if this is a server-side change. If the company is releasing the feature with an update, you should update the Spotify app on your device to the latest version to enjoy the new feature.

With the ability to stream music videos, Spotify's Premium subscriptions now offer more value for money, and that should attract more people to the streaming platform. Spotify, however, isn’t the only music-streaming platform that offers music videos. Apple Music, Tidal, and YouTube Music can also stream music videos.
