Should Samsung have kept Android 14/One UI 6 for the Galaxy S23 series in the oven a little longer before releasing the stable update to users worldwide? Samsung delaying the update's release in some markets suggests that may have been the best course of action, and so do the complaints of a not-so-smooth user experience on the stable One UI 6 firmware.
Galaxy S23 users have been taking to X/Twitter to discuss the state of the stable Android 14 software on their phones and how the final version feels less smooth than the beta versions. We have noticed it on our Galaxy S23 smartphones as well, with the Galaxy S23 Ultra in particular having some stutters here and there, stutters that weren't there on the One UI 6 beta update.
Samsung has promised that it will be working on improving the smoothness of some elements, such as animations, with future updates, but that has more to do with the animations that play when opening and closing apps and home screen widgets. The general fluidity of the user interface is also not as good on the stable update as it was on the last few beta releases, and we're left to wonder if Samsung will do anything to address that.
We certainly hope it does. The Galaxy S23, S23+, and S23 Ultra are the most optimized and smoothest flagship phones Samsung has ever released, and it would be a shame if that doesn't carry over with the Android 14 update. This is actually something we have been concerned about for a few months, but fingers crossed that Samsung will not stop working on One UI 6 until it's as perfect as possible.
